Sinus Augmentation for Lost Bone Height in Your Upper Jaw

A sinus augmentation, or lift, is performed on patients who either do not have the bone height in the upper jaw or whose sinuses are too close to the jaw, for dental implants to be placed.

How is the Sinus Augmentation Procedure Performed?

In the most common sinus augmentation technique, a tiny incision is made near the upper premolar or molar region to expose the jawbone.  A small opening is cut into the bone, and the membrane lining the sinus on the other side of the opening is gently pushed upward.

The underlying space is filled with bone graft material, and the incision is closed. The bone used for this procedure may be from your own body or more likely from a cadaver. Sometimes the dentist might use synthetic materials that can also stimulate bone formation. A dental implant can be placed after healing has occurred or can be placed in conjunction with the sinus lift, depending on the case.

How Much Does a Sinus Lift Cost?

Since the procedure uses synthetic materials and dental implants, the sinus lift treatment can stretch even the most generous of budgets. However, since the sinus lift procedure can drastically alter your life for the better, it’s worth it to talk to Dr. Brusky about your financing options.

Sinus augmentation has been shown to increase the success of dental implant procedures and allows for implants where none could be placed before.
