Soft Tissue Grafting

Gum Recession Treatment in Green Bay, WI

Soft tissue grafting is often necessary to combat gum recession. Periodontal disease, trauma, aging, over-brushing, and poor tooth positioning are the leading causes of gum recession, which can lead to tooth-root exposure in severe cases. The main goal of soft tissue grafting is to either cover the exposed root or to thicken the existing gum tissue in order to halt further tissue loss.

Benefits of Soft Tissue Grafting

There are three major benefits to soft tissue grafting: increased comfort, improved aesthetics, and better gum health.

What to Expect with Soft Tissue Grafting

Deep cleaning will be performed both above and below the gum line to clear the teeth and roots of calculus (tartar). The procedure itself will generally be performed under local anesthetic. A small incision is made at the recipient site in order to create a small pocket, and then a split thickness incision is made in the pocket. The donor tissue is placed between the two sections of this area and is typically larger than the incision so that some excess will be apparent. Eventually, gum uniformity and substantial healing will take place in the first six weeks after the procedure.

How Much Does Soft Tissue Grafting Cost?

The fee you are charged for soft tissue grafting may vary from another patient due to the severity of your condition. If you require additional tissue, costs could rise.
